After a friendly greeting, I ask them: "What's a struggle in your life right now?" , and follow with sharing a personal struggle of my own and closing the letter. Each letter is different and a unique and a sincere struggle is shared with each person. I enclose a self-addressed envelope and document the process and the responses. For the collaboration above, I worked with M to create a gift for H. Through six months of emailing back and forth researching about H's life and interests we decided on a custom Shabbat candlestick with symbols dealing with her personal and cultural history. I did interviews with them about their experience working in the spaces with art all day and their observations about the value of the art objects. I photographed them in their homes with the objects they value or collect. These photos as well as the actual objects, and a video tour of the collections are represented in the project. Tameka, a museum guard and volunteer fire firefighter has an extensive collection of stuffed animals saved from her childhood. She is a Janet Jackson super fan and has collected binders of magazine and newspaper clippings. She has memorabilia from all the J.J. concerts she attended.
